IRS Offer in Compromise
Last updated on November 30, 2023
An offer in compromise (OIC) is an agreement between the IRS and a taxpayer in which the IRS agrees to accept less than full payment of a tax debt. In some cases, clients may save hundreds of thousands of dollars. In other cases, submitting an offer in compromise is not the best way to resolve the case. The state of Georgia has an offer in compromise program similar to the IRS program.
An Atlanta tax attorney at our law office will review your situation and tell you if you qualify for an offer in compromise. If you do not qualify for OIC, or if there is a better approach, we will advise you on the best way to eliminate the tax debt, which may involve:
- Disputing the underlying liability
- Penalty abatement to remove interest or penalties
- Currently not collectible status
- Utilizing the statute of limitations on collection
- An installment agreement with monthly payments
- The IRS Fresh Start Program
- Innocent spouse relief
- Bankruptcy
Our attorneys have vast experience from which they effectively determine the best possible resolution for your case.
